Chinese Food Container

"Takeout", 8"x10", Oil on Board
I finished painting this Chinese food container last night. I'm not happy with how it turned out but it's been a good learning experience. I wished that the container either had red letters or Chinese symbols etc...I think it would have punched it up a little. I'm off to look for my next subject!

C'mon...it came out perfect. If it's making you crazy, just paint some red letters in there..but I think it's a winner!!

I am going to disagree with you on this one, Jean. I love the background - it really "punches out" the box. And the shadows you have done on the take-out box are just great! To me, you have achieved a high level of realism with this one, without losing the painterly effect. I say, BRAVO!

Hi Jean,
The first thing I thought was that if it had red lettering that it would just ''POP'', then I read your remarks which reflected the same thing. I think that you should consider it a work in progress, and when you find such a container...just continue from there. I love it....it's a brilliant start.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! It really helps! Yes, the painting still bothers me and I think the lettering would help. I also did more glazing with this piece and that may be contributing to my apprehension because it's a technique I need more work on.

Yes, white is very difficult for me, but I keep trying to paint it to get better. Thanks for your encouragement.

perfect. Yeah, some of those cartons have the red Chinese letters on them but, this is excellent.
