Finished Nectarines Today

"Nectarines II", 8"x 10", Oil on Board
I was happy that I finished the nectarines today because I'm ready to move on to something new. I'm not 100% happy with this piece but I guess I can live with it. For some reason, it took quite a bit of effort to get back into the groove of painting after being sick in December and with the interruption of the holidays. With that being said, I'm already looking for my next subject to paint. I start a new semester on Monday and I'll be taking two classes this time so I'm going to have to manage my time wisely so I can continue painting. Since I have insomnia, I figure I can use the extra time for painting or studying. If you get a chance, check out Ted Polomis' website. His work is awesome! Well, I hope you all have a great week painting and oh, if you hate the music playlist just turn it off.

Wow Jean- so fresh! You achieved a great piece here. I like the soft tension between grey backdrop and
subject.

Hi Pierre,
Really! I wasn't as happy with this nectarines painting as I was with the first. I probably shouldn't compare the two because the lighting is different etc...I simplified the backdrop with this piece also. I just felt the creases and folds weren't necessary in the upper portion behind the fruit. The weren't very pronounced anyway...more of a distraction so I only included a few gestures on the bottom. Anyways, good to hear from you Pierre! I can't wait to see what you've been working on!

So nice to see that you are feeling better and back to painting! Beautiful piece...can almost taste their sweetness. Also, I like the added touch of the music....nice...

Hi D.
Thanks! It's not a favorite of mine but that's ok. I think I'm just very critical. I do think that an artist can really feel when they've hit the mark so to speak. I could probably paint ten pieces and only end up "liking" one or two of them. I'm glad you like the music playlist. I was actually kind of apprehensive about adding it especially with some of the music I listen to but my 15 year thinks moms "cool". I figure if folks don't like it then they can hit the stop button. It's good to hear from you, happy painting!

Hi Mary,
It's good to hear from you! Yes, I actually just got home from class...it went quite well. I'm going to be tired but I'm going to hang in there.

Hi Jean,

Happy New Year! This is a really nice painting to begin the year. Although you may not be as pleased with it as you would like, it is a "keeper". The colors are wonderful as are the transition areas. I think you were wise to simplify the background to focus attention on the fruit. Take care of yourself this year, and all the best in both your classes and your beautiful art!

Hi Joanne,
It's so good to hear from you! I hope you had a good vacation. No, I'm not pleased with it. I think it's more of a transition piece that help me get back into painting after I was sick. I had a hard time getting into it with this piece and it probably shows. I post the good and the bad on here though. I'm currently working on a children's, vintage teapot. I may end up posting some in progress photos. Take care!
