Jar Finished

"Jar on Windowsill", 5"x7", Linen on Board
Well, I finally finished this piece this morning...I'm glad! I was getting kind of tired of working on the same piece for such a long time, however, I am happy with the results. Again, some of the problems I encountered working on this piece were in dealing with values. I'd get an area wrong and then have to go back in and wipe it clean and start over. Maybe someday I'll get it right! I am happy with the lighting in this piece though and the shadows and reflections it created. Last Friday I dropped of new work at the Carver Hill Gallery which I'm hoping the gallery director will update her website with my new paintings. I'm not sure what I'll start in on next but I have been thinking a lot about pastels lately so maybe I'll go in that direction.

Well worth the wait...what a gorgeous piece Jean! Good for you. Sorry to hear about your illness slowing your painting down. Clearly it's not stopping you from making real gems. Looking forward to seeeing your pastels. All my best to you, Jean.
Regards,
Todd

A lovely piece, Jean! You are able to achieve such believable transparency in this jar! Not easy to do for many artists! I look forward to seeing those pastels should you return to them for a time. All the best, Jean!

Jean, this painting rocks! Isn't there some kind of rule about composing values with 2/3 a medium (or light or dark) 1/3 light and a "smidge" dark?? That might be a Carol Marine thing... But this painting is a good example of a smidge of dark, it totally works!!

Hi Diane,
I don't know about the "composing values" rules but the still life actually looked like this and I painted it true to life. I worked really hard on getting the value right in this painting. I guess that's actually what I struggle with the most as a painter. Thanks for taking the time to look and comment. Take care.
